A Program Of The

City Of Columbia

SSO in Progress

The City of Columbia’s wastewater (sewer) system is aging. Older systems are sensitive to wet-weather events that can cause problems such as sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs). Therefore, the City is committed to assessing the system and replacing or rehabilitating undersized infrastructure.

Clean Water 2020 will assess and improve:

  • Large portions of the wastewater collection system
  • Numerous pumping stations
  • Portions of the wastewater treatment plant

The primary goal is to reduce SSOs. The City is dedicated to the Clean Water 2020 program of projects which will protect the public's health and safety and improve water quality.
