Lower Crane Creek Relief Sewer Phase 2

Project Map: View Project Map
Project Type: Gravity Sewer
Project Phase: Design & Permit

Project Description:

This project initially involved designing the rehabilitation of the previously abandoned 36-inch pipe (approximately 7,860 linear feet) from manhole 26258MH near Interstate 20 and Brickyard Road to manhole 24390MH. This project is coordinated with other updates to the 2020 Major Wastewater Collection and Transmission System (WCTS) Master Plan, including the proposed addition of wet-weather storage tanks at the Old Eau Claire Treatment Facility, a new North Columbia Pump Station (NNCPS), and a force main. All of these improvements were intended to provide the necessary conveyance capacity.

During preliminary design of the NNCPS force main, it was determined that the flow conveyed by the force main must be limited to prevent flooding in the downstream section of the collection system. This limitation requires an additional section of pipe to be upsized. The project was amended to include a section of sewer from 19145MH to 31225MH, approximately 5,700 LF, upstream of the original project limits to provide the necessary capacity in the Crane Creek conveyance system.

The necessary easements are being pursued, and the project is expected to enter construction in early 2028 and be completed by mid-2029.
